The Fort Hays State University Rodeo Team will host its first annual gala, a dinner and auction event to raise money for the team, in January.

The student-athletes were in charge of putting together silent auction items in order to fundraise for travel expenses and resources for practices to help further their success from the fall.

The FHSU Rodeo Team is excited to host this event for the first time at the Ellis County Fairgrounds to provide plenty of capacity. They are expecting a large crowd of family members, friends, sponsors, and alumni to be in attendance.

Since 1964, the Fort Hays State University Rodeo Club and Team has provided students with valuable opportunities to hone their skills and earn an education through College Rodeo.

“Our student officer team and our rodeo coaches have been working hard to grow the program, and our banquet is a huge step to showing the community what we’re about,” says student and club Treasurer Corenna Broussard. They work hard throughout the year to fundraise, as well as train and compete at NIRA sanctioned events.

Finishing the fall rodeo season in the Central Plains, Fort Hays is once again rising in the ranks. Freshman Rhett Robbins currently sits 3rd in the men’s bareback riding. The rest of the men’s and women’s team have been placing in the long and short round consistently at the college rodeos as well, setting a new precedent for the small university.

The team needs support to get college rodeo athletes down the road to 5 rodeos in the fall, and 6 in the spring at various schools across Kansas and Oklahoma. The team hosts its own practices throughout the week in Hays, Kansas for it’s team, and requires a large amount of resources to feed livestock and maintain the arena.

The gala will take place at the Ellis County Fairgrounds beginning with a cocktail hour at 6:00 p.m. and followed by dinner, awards, guest speech and live auction.

Tickets are available through a Fort Hays Rodeo Team member or coach. The cost is $50 per ticket.
